Our holistic fertility support program combines acupuncture, herbal medicine, and lifestyle guidance to optimise reproductive health naturally. Many families in The Ponds have found that TCM, whether used alone or alongside IVF and assisted reproductive technologies, significantly improves outcomes by regulating cycles, reducing stress, and enhancing overall reproductive function.
Our fertility support for The Ponds couples uses a structured program that typically spans three to six months, aligning treatments with your menstrual cycle and any assisted reproductive procedures. We combine weekly acupuncture with customised herbal formulas, dietary recommendations, and lifestyle guidance to create optimal conditions for conception.

Knowing what to expect makes the first visit easier. Here is how a first fertility support appointment runs for patients coming to us from The Ponds.
Your first appointment begins with a detailed conversation about your main concern, medical history, current medications, sleep, digestion, energy and stress levels. This usually takes 15–20 minutes and shapes everything that follows.
Where possible Joy prefers to see both partners, since male factor contributes to a substantial share of fertility difficulty. Bring any semen analysis, AMH, hormone panels, or IVF protocol documents you have.
Joy uses tongue and pulse diagnosis alongside your history to identify the underlying pattern behind your symptoms. This is what distinguishes TCM from symptom-led care — two people with the same complaint often receive quite different treatment.
If you are working with a fertility clinic, treatment is scheduled around your protocol — particularly in the days before and after embryo transfer. Joy will coordinate timing rather than work in parallel.
How long it takes. Initial appointment 75 minutes; follow-up sessions 45–60 minutes.
Preconception work is usually planned over three to four months, because that is roughly the window in which egg and sperm development can be influenced. For IVF cycles, treatment intensifies around stimulation and transfer. Starting earlier gives more room to work, but treatment can begin at any stage.
Acupuncture is widely used alongside IVF and IUI, and while several trials suggest a benefit around embryo transfer, the overall evidence is genuinely mixed and reviews disagree. Joy will give you a realistic picture for your circumstances rather than a success rate. TCM does not replace fertility medicine.
Joyful TCM Clinic is registered with the major Australian health funds, so if your extras cover includes acupuncture you can claim on the spot via HICAPS and pay only the gap. Rebate amounts and annual limits vary considerably by fund and level of cover — check your policy before your first visit, or call the clinic and we will help you work out what you are entitled to. 0477 021 713

FAQs
Ideally, couples from The Ponds should begin fertility acupuncture at least three months before actively trying to conceive or starting an IVF cycle. This allows time to regulate cycles, improve egg and sperm quality, and optimise overall reproductive health. However, it is never too late to begin, and treatment can be beneficial at any stage.

Traditional Chinese herbs such as Dong Quai and Shatavari can enhance fertility and reproductive health in women. These botanicals work to balance hormones, regulate menstrual cycles, and support optimal reproductive function. They could also complement modern fertility treatments, potentially improving pregnancy outcomes and live birth rates. However, successful usage requires working with a qualified practitioner, ensuring high-quality sourcing, and careful integration with conventional medical approaches.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers complementary support for individuals undergoing IVF, with potential benefits to reproductive health and hormone balance. Studies show incorporating TCM therapies at least three months before IVF can enhance fertility parameters, including egg and embryo quality. These include specific herbs like Goji berries and Dang Gui that regulate hormonal balance and improve reproductive function. Integration of TCM with IVF treatment requires collaboration between TCM practitioners and fertility specialists.
